IF THE SENSOR CAME OFF, THEN NO IT WILL NOT MAKE THE CAR RUN BAD. HOWEVER IF THE CAR OVERHEATS THEN YOU WILL NEVER KNOW TILL ITS TO LATE !

The temperature sensor is one of the main sensors the computer takes its readings from to be able to adjust the way the engine runs. So if it is bad, yes it could cause the engine to run bad.
