Water leak in Driver's Side floorboard

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a leak in my drivers side floorboard. I do not
have a sunroof. I d not have a roof rack. There is no
visible water marks from
the door. The cowl on the windshield is in good
shape and I cannot see any watermarks getting
under the windshield. The AC evaporator is on the
other side. There is water evaporation marks up to
the top carpet and some mold forming, but I can't
tell where the leak is from. Took it to a mechanic
once and he blew
out some kind of valve where the AC leaks but it
seemed to solve the problem for a minute and it
came back again. What do you all think the problem
is?

I am going thru this right now( May 2018). They found on the back of my 2017 Escape near the roof line, that it wasn't sealed correctly. Just a small gap about the size of an eraser. All the rain and most likely snow got into that hole over a matter of at least a few month. It was pooling into the spare tire well and filling up. Everytime I braked, the water was pushed to the front of the vehicle. It saturated all the padding underneath. They are currently deodorizing, drying it out and ionizing (I think that's what he said) to make sure all bacteria etc is removed. No mold was found! New carpet/padding will be installed etc. So my advice is to check along any welding spots. So far these guys have been great.

The sunroof is not water tight. There are drain holes for water on the r & l front corners . You can see them when you open the sunroof. Ive be been told There are drains in the back corners but not sure if that is on all escapes. The drains can be be cleaned by carefully with an air hose.

For my car, I do not have a sunroof. They ran a car shower to search the leak and it was where the back trunk hits the roofline. Probably not using the correct term. The car was taking on water for months. I took my car to Colonial Ford in Plymouth, MA. This was from the manufacturer as the car was brand new.

I have a 2017 Escape and purchased it brand new. It has been fine (in CA) until this past winter. All of a sudden the driver's side floorboard became soaked. Over a short period of time there was so much moisture building up in the car that brown tinged small droplets of water were appearing on the inside of the windshield. The dealers are being jerks as well as the insurance company. This all started after I took the vehicle in for damage from a rodent or other animal that burrowed and caused damage to the wiring and to the carpet. The damage was repaired and new carpet placed. It was shortly after that when the rains began that the floor began getting soaked. The insurance company is saying that its a new problem and wants to charge another $500 deductible and the dealership can't find the leak and wants me to pay $600 ($200/hour) for the carpet removal and then additional charges to treat the vehicle for mold and replace the carpet. This car is for my nanny and two small children so essentially its a totalled vehicle as it can't be used for its intended purpose. So, after 6 weeks its still sitting at my dealership with noone providing any reasonable customer service at all!!! Any ideas? I do have a sunroof and a roof rack.

This video shows how to fix wet floorboard on the passenger side, maybe the same fix for the driver side. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12xIOnU6jao
