My dashboard, speedometer and radio quit working.

Asked by Hans494 Mar 23, 2018 at 09:30 PM about the 2014 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My dashboard, speedometer and radio quit working. If I try
to turn on the radio it turns on briefly but then says "battery
saving mode" and turns off. I checked fuses with no luck.
I'm stumped.

Have the battery and alternator tested. These cars have a battery management system on them that get squirrely when operating under voltage, which can occur with a failing alternator.

I disconnected the battery for a while and it worked. However, I took it for a ride and it turned off briefly but came back on. I'll get the battery and alternator checked tomorrow. Thanks for you quick reply!

same issue, 2016 ford Explorer XLT. The only possible solution I have found is connecting a Bluetooth OBD II adapter. I don't know why but when I connect it, everything works but if I disconnect it, nothing works again. It seems there is a short circuit in the data link port under the steering column. Hope this helps.

I had the same issue but got it fixed even the dealer couldn’t find what was wrong because all of their diagnostic tools showed everything was ok
