Chevy Cruze 2014 Won't Start - Battery Acts Dead - Then Car starts fine

Asked by Ken Jul 26, 2018 at 02:51 PM about the 2014 Chevrolet Cruze 1LT Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am able to unlock my car via the FOB and then I put my key in the ignition.
All lights come on the dashboard like normal and everything works fine.
When I turn the key, it clicks once and everything goes off. The key won't
come out of the ignition. All symptoms remind me of what its like when my
battery is drained. Then I will pop the hood and sometimes tap the battery
connections a little but sometimes its not needed. After about 15-30 seconds
the car comes alive like normal and I am able to start the car. It used to do
this rarely but it has gotten more frequent recently. Occasionally the anti-theft
light will come on after I am able to start the engine. Is this a battery
problem? Is it a battery connection issue? Is it a ground wire issue? Or a
starter issue? Any help would be appreciated!

After having to have my 2014 Cruze towed for not starting a third time (the first time it went to a local non-dealer-related repair shop), I asked the Chevrolet dealer service department to see if the starter motor had to be replaced. They called me and said the starter had been tested, and it did need to be replaced. My used car warranty plan covered the repair and the cost of a rental car (thru the dealership). I have not had any more starting problems (but am keeping my fingers crossed).

Chevrolet motors has had this problem for a long time . I had the same similar problem with a 2003 Malibu and after being tired of having to wait until it would start . and having gone thru the many advices and help from several people , check the battery , altternator , starter countless first echelon maintenance . I finally found a home shop mechanic on U tube that knew exactly what caused this problem on trucks cars made by GM . It is a Problem with the Ignition Switch and the anti theft system . All You have to do is disconnect the wire that controls the system to the Key switch . Look it up . How to disconnect alarm from Key switch . I do not remember the name of the young man that did the video but He is Great . Good Luck .

Owners of a 2011-2014 Chevy Cruze may comment about an intermittent engine no- crank. They may also comment that if they cycle the ignition OFF and then back ON, the engine may crank. This may be accompanied by a CMP (exhaust camshaft position sensor) signal. The intake CMP sensor will not cause this intermittent no-crank condition. If the intake CMP sensor has a fault, it will set a DTC. The condition may be caused by the ECM receiving an intermittent exhaust position CMP sensor signal as soon as the ignition is turned to the ON position. This results in the ECM not sending a crank request signal because it has determined that the engine is already running.

Hi everyone I am the Road Mechanic. I solved the problem to the Chevy Cruze 12 - 18 dashboard warning saying check battery and charging system. The black box that sits on the battery has fusible links inside the box(block). The one for the alternator and starter is a 250a or 20mm fusible link sits next to the positive battery cable.

I have a 2014 chevy cruze Lt I'll cut the engine off and remain inside without opening the door. So that the radio is still playing. Sometimes it makes a loud noise that shakes the car alittle. The sound it makes sounds like when you try to start your car while it's already started and the car will lose power for a second. Does anyone know what this is?

I have a 2014 chevy Cruze diesel with the radio staying on the problem. When it happens the car will not turn over. When I try to start the car the dash lights are normal as I turn the key but it does not turn the starter. It happens randomly from 5 times in one day to only once every 4 weeks or so. All batter cables have been replaced. To correct the issue I have to take the neg cable off the battery wait a few minutes and I can 5 times out of 10 start the car. If not i repeat the same process.
