Why is my 1985 s10 2.8 v6 hard to start ?

why did you replace the carburetor ? look down the barrel and open the throttle , gas should squirt from the side from the jets, if not your accelerator pump is not working , do you pump it a few times before start up ? perhaps the float needs adjusting , where did you get the carburetor ? I had a few of those S-10's and I though they were great little trucks

Hello Mark, I replaced the carburetor because the old one kept giving me problems and caught on fire.I have checked and its pumping gas. I have tried pumping the gas before cranking. I use to have to choke the old carburetor to start it after it set overnight, so ive tried that as well. I have also checked the float level and its good. is there a vacuum port open ? I'm sure a carb. like that ain't a big seller , it may have sat on a shelf for a while it may have a problem , take it back or open it up if you're into it , watch the details , "gas , spark , compression " it should be running , are the plugs wet after a no start ?

I ve been through the vacunm and nothing is wrong. The plugs are not wet. Remember the engine will start, its just hard. As far as the carburetor, i had the top off to check the float setting and it ll looks good.

from a cold start you should pump the gas once or twice or even 3 or 4 what ever it takes as long as it doesn't flood ,, the engine needs a little extra gas to fire when stone cold , the old mopars would flood easy if you gave it too much , it's an old system but I remember those 2.8's had great mileage

Turns out the pickup coil was bad. Replaced it and solved the problem.

Thats why i kept putting it off. Last time it went bad the truck q and wouldnt start.
