1989 f150 starter, battery, wiring, help!

I have a 1989 f150.
It has a new starter and alternator. Drove fine for
about a week about I got the starter put in.
Then one day I got home, put it in park, shut off the
ignition and it revved really high. Couldn't get it cut
off, so had to disconnect the battery.
Now, Everytime I try to reconnect the battery, the
engine tries to crank with no key or ignition turn.
Sparks go flying from the negative battery terminal
when I connect the cable.
What's going on?

Either you have something wired incorrectly or the fender mounted solenoid is stuck. Ignition switch could also be broken. It will be a process of elimination. Remove the small wires from the solenoid, then reconnect the battery to see if it tries to start. If no, suspect ignition switch.
