How can I get truck started after moving distributor accidently/

Asked by RoyF Jul 25, 2014 at 09:59 PM about the 1986 Ford F-150 XL Standard Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1986 Ford F150 with 302 EFI V-8. I was removing bolt from thermostat housing and bumped distributor (which was loose). Motor is out of time and I can't get it started. Tried spinning distributor and starting, but did not work and smelled gas. Help!

The motor should have started. Usually even if it's out of time by a long shot it will run like crap until you get the timing light and turn the distributor to the right degree. You must have flooded it. Just try to start it again in the morning without pumping the gas.

I tried timing the motor as per your specs and I got it started and timed. However, it is not running well at all. When you try to accelerate it backfires through the intake and the motor dies. I ran it for awhile to let the motor relearn, but still the same. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
