Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have opportunity to buy a 85 F150 "Cherry" body, drive train, but needs motor. Has a cracked block of a 302 v8 but truck originally built with in-line 6 cylinder. I want overdrive, not sure what automatic it currently has now. Recommendations?

The 2.9l straight 6 is 296 cubic inchs "I think" its pretty close to the 302 V8, and the straight 6 has more torque. So it comes down to cost and availability. Do you have the exhaust for the 302, another concideration. Does the shift lever on the column have O/D printed at the end of the lever, the button in the end of the lever is the over drive switch for trailer towing G'Luck

It appears the truck originally came equipped with a 6 cyl, 4 speed but previous owner replaced 6 with a 302 V8 and a 3 speed automatic, no OD. I have put in new 302 and am curious if an AOD automatic will bolt up to my transfer case?
