no dash light when i turn on thekey

No instrument lights but turns over wont
start has head lights and tail lights

Check the Fusable Links coming off of the Starter solenoid first. If they don't fall apart when lightly pulled on, you may be looking at an ignition switch problem - not the key but the actual switch partway down the steering column connected to the lock cylinder by a rod.
