oil lubrication

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hello!

1928 Model A...When I crank over the engine with the valve cover off I can see that the front
valve chamber readily fills up with oil.

How does the rear valve chamber receive oil?
Does it simply flow over the partition separating the two?
Are the mains lubricated by the oil as it drains from the valve chambers?

The picture I provided shows my concern. the front chamber is well lubricated but there is no oil
in the rear chamber...I have a slight suspicion that this would not be the case if the valve cover
was installed.

Much appreciated.

Russell.
