Should I change to the newly recommended 5W40 engine oil or continue to use the formerly recommended 5W30?

Asked by wnormand Jul 22, 2016 at 02:25 PM about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2014 Jeep GC 3.0L Turbodiesel has 112,000 miles on it.  I've only used the recommended Pennzoil 5W30 Ultra Euro L for the life of the vehicle.  Jeep just came out with a new recommendation of going to Rotella T6 5W40.  Should I change to the 5W40 or stay with the 5W30 at this mileage?  Or is it just not a big deal either way as long as I'm changing the oil on time?

If it is a Jeep recommendation and not some internet idiot oil expert use the latest recommended oil. I run the T6 in my Yamaha motorcycle and it is good oil. It is also reasonably priced at your local Walmart if you change your own oil as I do.
