Typically within the alternator and they are not serviceable.

the voltage regulator is internal to the pcm,( powertrain control module) is the engine computer. you may try a junk yard for this but be sure you have exactly the same options on both vans or it may not work, also i know some of these computers are bieng remanufactured but i am unsure of the price

What? If it was it would fry the computer.

no it wouldnt fry the whole computer, only the regulator portion of it, and most of the older pcms 84-90 had the regulator internal to the pcm, all the amperage of the alternator does not go through the pcm, the pcm tells the alternator what rate to charge at and it goes directly back to the battery. although i am fairly certain of this i will recheck my facts, there was allways an exception to the rule...i have been a chrysler tech for 20 years

Really!! Unless the regulator is external!! (Old chrystlers/doge) it will be internal( inside the alternator) ecu-pcm-icm nothing to do with charging totally independent system! Has nothing to do with what Charlie says! I’m A certified Hyundai tech with over 25 years of experience I’ve got the two bottom levels of certification with Monday and I’ve been there LoJack installer for the past two years and I hang out with all the upper tax and inside of two years I went from 13th tech to number four in the shop you need a new alternator dude and you know what all theaters are serviceable go to eBay and buy yourself a rebuild kit for about 50 bucks

I own an alternator and starter shop. Charlie is correct. Apache1959 is an arrogant fool that is prone to answering without knowing the facts. Hope this helps. Say a prayer for Apache; he needs it.

Apache you should not comment or give advise if you do not know what are you talking about, i suggest to try to go to a trading school or find a good mechanic to teach you about cars and troubleshooting, have a good day.
