1987 cheve caprice
brougham over heated
change thermostat,
now the ac, heat,
defrost don't come on.
Took blower tested it
works also change
relay, and resistor, all
good, check fuse
good.
What could it be!

Look near the carburetor for a green wire. This is for the idle speed up device that is energized when AC or defrost is selected on the dash panel. If it was moved during the thermostat replacement or has fallen onto the hot engine the insulation has probably melted and the bare wire is touching something metal and creating a short. I believe there's a 30 AMP fuse inline near the alternator for high fan speed only. On older GMs it was there. If not check under the dash near the center for a lone fuse or a small fuse box with two or three fuses in it. Also check the fuses in the main fuse box that are labeled AC or anything having to do with AC. Hope that helps! Jim
