What are the symptoms of a bad timing on a 1988 Lincoln Town Car

Asked by James Jan 19, 2013 at 03:03 PM about the 1988 Lincoln Town Car Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car had some repairs done; electrical and timing. A week later engine wont turn
over! Bad smells from the exhausted and car stalled on owner several times!

1 Answer

Way out of time, backfiring, (if it runs at all), lesser mistime, poor acceleration, missing, poor gas mileage and. as you describe, distinct odor of unburnt hydrocarbons especially if it's too retarded, if too advanced, hard start, Should be 10 degrees btdc, and timing will not prevent it from turning over
