Where is the low port on my 1988 Cadillac Eldorado?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I'm having a hard time with my Caddy's low port location for refrigerant.  Every diagram I've seen shows to port to be easily found top right side by the firewall.  Not so for me.  I found a small canister on the left side below the air cleaner a few inches back from the radiator that has a port on the rear left  side and about an inch diameter line coming out on the front right and going under the engine past the condenser to the firewall and interchanging with what looks like a freeway interchange.  No other ports can I find except the high port( I think) located on the top left side of the firewall.
The system has supposedly been adapted to R-134a.  The fittings suggest that, but after hooking up to that port, the refrigerant would not flow.  I punctured the can as instructed and got nothing.  The needle went all the way to the stop.  That's when I stopped, got scared I'd blow myself up, disconnected everything,  burned my hand and arm, and said........ There is no mechanic within fifty miles from here, but there two parts stores in this tiny little town.
