Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have an 84 Cadillac with the 4.1 in it and it will start
fine idle for a min then die. Start fight back up and then
when you give it gas it falls on its face. Took out the cat,
new plugs etc, new egr, new fuel filter and it still does it. any
ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Sounds like it may be running rich. That is, too much fuel. Is the check engine or service engine soon light on? If so, do you know how to pull the trouble codes from the Electronic Climate Control system? With the ignition off turn off the climate control system. Now press and hold the off and warmer buttons together. Any stored trouble codes will be displayed on the climate control face. Are the spark plugs black and sooty? Black smoke from the tailpipe? If so it's definitely running rich. Check for a bad fuel pressure regulator, bad MAP sensor, bad coolant temperature sensor, or bad fuel injectors. Hope that helps. Jim

That should be with the ignition ON. Sorry about that! Jim
