I have no power in the heater!!

Asked by NicoleLB88 Sep 29, 2017 at 07:57 AM about the 1981 Buick Century Limited Sedan RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Buick Century
The heat and defrosters come on but there is not enough power to make a difference. The windshield defrosts' on its own and the car never gets warm.
Any ideas as to what it could be?

High resistance wires? You have voltage drop going on? I would also check output of your alternator also.

1981, your heater may have a manual valve or electronic, that opens when you need heat inside the car. I suspect that is not working. You may need to do some research as to where it is located and replace it. The first place to look is under the hood. (1) make sure you have hoses running from the engine to the heater (they will go to the passanger side of the firewall...1- IN, 1 - OUT) also check at the firewall position for a valve that has a cable or wires going to it.... (2) When you find the valve, you can replace it or eliminate it, If you eliminate it, you will get some heat inside the car in the summer.
