My dad got a cheap deal on a 1988 Ford Tempo 5 speed transaxle... how do I
check the fluid? I've never owned a car younger than 2002.... there's no dip stick
for the trani just oil.... please help asap

take your automobile down to your local shop and the technician should be able to diagnose the problem with the malfunctioning transmission system. check inside the automobile's owner hand book as this should show clearly where to check and fill up the transmission.
