1988 MBZ 560sel, just replaced idle control valve, now it won't hold idle, continues to have difficulty starting (usually 4 tries), replaced dead battery (wouldn't hold a charge), am now considering fuel pump relay replacement. BTW, ABS light is on, and the SRS light pops on briefly when I enter the car. Also, the radio was coming on when you turn off the car. Could something as simple as the overload relay cause these widespread problems?

I found out the answer is yes. SUCCESS!! There was a little adjustment to the small plastic tube at the head of the Idle Control Valve, a replacement of a fuse, and voila! It started breathing, at first weak and gasping, but persistent. After keeping her alive with revving the engine a few times, it caught on, and sounded as if it were learning how to breathe again. And now she's alive! It is all good! New ICV ($75.00), new battery ($65.00), (1) 10A fuse, one 15" rim and tire for the spare ($62.00)= $202.00 Awesome!

a bad automatic idle control valve will set off the abs light easy way to check the automatic idle control valve is test the ohm reading between 4 to 6 ohms at the 2 pin and take a 9 volt square battery the ones they use in radios's see if it clicks if both are true it is good next see if there is oil and junk where the valve is if it is clean it out with rubbing alcohol and q tips to clean all the junk until clean then reinstall it should fix if not when the engine is cold turn the ignition on test the plug to idle control valve it should be 12 volts it means there is a malfunction in voltage from the opv relay check the fuse and the idle control relay they supply voltage to the automatic idle control valve also check the engine temp sensor to the computer and oil pressure temp sensor to computer they also effect the function of idle there are a few other area's but not enough space would be to check the pin hole for the modules to make sure getting 12 volts
