Could I remove engine parts from the front of the engine to get the flashlight

is it a metal flashlight? have you tried a magnet?

Thanks guys, It is metal, and I have tried a magnet and a spring hook for pulling dropped things out. I can touch it with my finger, but it seems to be wedged. Again, could I take parts off the front of the engine and be able to get to it, or disassemble from the top down? or keep trying to get at it through the hole? I am thinking the last option would be best. Thanks, Bob

try everything before you start taking things apart- like a Chinese puzzle- if it is aluminum, i guess the magnet won't work- but if you come up with an answer to this diabolical problem- you will feel SO good-

Yes, that is a very good retriever. I have one like it that is 50 years old and still works good. The flashlight is in such a position that I can't get it with that tool. In looking over that page I saw the word "tape" and thought I would try to see if I can clean off the oil with CRC Brake Kleen and try to tape it and pull it out that way. Just another idea...

OK... Got it out~! didn't get around to the tape idea. Got it with a #2 fish hook on a wire leader and a long skinny flat tip screwdriver. Thanks for your help, Bob
