As the owner of a first gen Dakota I
am in a constant struggle to stop my
paint from peeling so does anyone
have an idea to stop it?

Repainting won't help. I had mine repainted and it started peeling off again. You would have to take it down to the bare metal and start over again with good primer and paint.
