Cannot shift my 93 Stealth RT. Stick shift is completely loose.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Stick shift became loose all of a sudden with or without clutch depressed. Clutch
pedal is not loose (not master cylinder, know what that is like). It started by giving
me trouble shifting into 2nd gear when it got cold. I hit a small bump and it was gone
(the shifter). Engine still runs fine. Any ideas what is wrong?

sounds like the shifter broke at tranny where it hooks to.

I just sent it to the garage and they say my clutch is dead and I might have transmission damage. Looks like this is the end for this car, I don't think I should spend 4K$ for a car maybe worth 5K$ and who knows what will break next... anyone needs it for parts?

Look for used parts and get a few friends together.. Check rising sun engines... They have used engines and transmissions... Don't get rid of it

The mechanic was either incompetent or a crook. The clutch and tranny are fine. It was the linkage between stick and tranny. Now fixed, I have my car back!
