Turns over but won't start

When turning the car over car does
what it's suppose to do but as soon as
I release the key it dies. I can get it
running but I have to hold the key in the
forward position when I do instrument
panel doesn't work and alternator
stops charging.

This is a symptom of either the ignition switch out of adjustment or it is falling apart and needs replaced. It's located down low on the steering column. On most Fords it was easier to drop the entire column down and let the steering wheel rest on the seat then reach back in and replace and adjust the switch.
