Car wont pop into gear

I have this issue on my 03 ford eacape. 200k miles.
No previous sign.i started the car up this
morning.car starts right up but it won't pop into
gear.it revs but it won't pop in fear

Try Reverse and then try second gear (I assume automatic) chances are you more than likely lost your 1st gear in the trans.

It is automatic.on the gears.. Reverse works. Drive won't. D 2nd a lil bit and 2 1st does... 1 Does that mean I need a new transmission

Yes, you need to have the transmission rebuilt, or a replacement installed. Sorry
