Dakota Shutting Off While Driving

My Dodge will shut off while driving.  I will be driving along at speeds under 80km/h and she will lose acceleration and shut off.

I have changed the plugs and wires. Checked the coils, changed the distributor and rotor button.  Even swapped computers with an identical truck to see if that was the problem.  

Once she shuts off she will not start.  After letting her sit for a while she will eventually start.

There also seems to be no fire on the plugs after she does this.  

I am not sure what could be the problem.  I am at my end with this truck.

most likely camshaft position sensor depending on year maybe not

Every sensor was changed on the truck. She is throwing codes like crazy. She ran great til the weather warmed up. Looking for a wiring harness now. Will start with that and work our way back.

If you have remote starter try disconecting it first we had same problem

I have an 06 Dakota with the same issue. Be driving down the road engine will shutt off and sometimes come back on without cranking and sometimes will just crank and wont start. HELPPPP

Will does the same thing like u all it runs but when she get warm shut off will I am driving. But I got to wait half hour

Just changed ignition coil did NOT fix it, someone else said cam sensor or crank sensor so those are next 99 Dodge Dakota 4 cyl.

2000 does the same so I have 3 ignition coils under the hood and when it quits I just swap to another coil and it'll crank right back up and run fine until that coil gets hot

This just happened to a friend of mine. Her 1999 Dakota w/ V6 was low on coolant. That was the problem. Maintenance people! Older vehicles need more love then a newer one. If your not able or confident enough to check your fluids, just go where you have your oil changed and have them check them for you.

Hi everyone this is happening to my 92 v6 the fuel pump goes off......i have changed both relays under the hood and new fuel pump still switching off randomly

Sounds like you own a dodge. Had a 1996 caravan and did all the same things everyone here did. Ours would die on the interstate and start up on its own while coasting in gear. Then is would wait until the busiest intersection you could find, and die. I even took it a mechanic shop. It was the cam sensor, then it was the crank sensor, then it was another cam sensor, then it was another cam sensor, then it was another cam sensor, then it was the computer, then it was another cam sensor, then it was a coil pack, then it was the battery...repeat until you sell it and buy something worth driving.

Same issue happening on my 08 dakota 4.7. changed plugs and coil packs, going to change the cam and crank sensors and let y'all know if it changes anything. My issue is during the winter no issues as far as shut off or miss fire but now summer comes and 70+ degrees and I have rough/ miss fire almost daily and now it's cutting off going down the road and at red lights.

Just bought a 1990 3.9liter Dakota, same problem, also rough idle, apparent combustion suppression problems (sensors?, water?, fuel?, air?, exhaust?) Replaced the "Fuel Pump Relay" which is called that at the Auto Parts Store, but called the "Automatic Shut Off Relay" in the wiring design diagrams. Didn't know exactly WHICH relay it was that I needed to "unplug before I changed the fuel filter" according to the YouTube video, but when I bought it I just matched it up. It does not experience automatic shut off now, but the combustion suppression problem is still there. After looking around a few forums all describing the same problem I have decided that part is an original design flaw and the only way to fix it is to not fix it and just drive it how it is. Let me know if there anybody can find a silver bullet hole to drill out in that.

I had all these problems ,replaced O sensor and no help .I later learned sensor was bought on amazon and I decided to purchase an expensive one 60$ s this is my grandsons car and he is tight. He put it on and problem solved, but wait a week later he said it was dying while on the highway.. after much thought I purchased a 50% coil at store and this solved problem for 3 weeks so far!

My 1997 Dodge Dakota does the same thing as all of the issues listed above. I am at a loss and I cannot figure this out it’s not throwing any codes so I don’t know what to do. It just keeps dying on me sitting at the busiest intersection or driving on the highway it just shuts off. Wait about 30 minutes. And it might crank back up and it might get me to my house it might not. PLEASE HELPPP
