Towing/hitch question '94 Dodge Dakota XLT V6
Who do I go to, and what is the best way to check the
integrity of (the part of my truck that is responsible for
connecting a hitch and trailer to), I don't know what it's
called. I mean, the bumper is not literally what pulls
anything hitched, right? A trailer gets secured to another
area of the truck besides the bumper, correct? What is
THAT part called, and how do I determine if it's not all
rusted to shit, or subject to breaking while towing? The
truck has been parked for about 6 years. It runs. I use it for
short trips in my neighborhood. But I want to flee California
with a camper or airstream and this truck is my ticket out!
I think you can take it to U-Haul and they can inspect it for you. They install hitches so they should be able to tell you if the one you have is good or is junk.
Buy a after market that bolts to the frame. Don't trust rusty dodge bumpers. Comes from real experience yards Have hitches around $50 bucks
The receiver hitch is what you are referring to. Inspect it for rust or take it to a mechanic if you don't trust yourself to do it.
