my transmission would not go into gear. i have an automatic. I made it home slowly, and changed the filter and seal on transmission pan. drove it for a couple of days and then the engine would rev up to 3000 rpms and then change gears roughly, should i replace the transmission?

it sounds like the trans is cooked. You will probably have to rebuild or replace it. It is usually cheaper to replace the tranny with a junkyard unit. The downside to this is that you do not really know what condition the transmission is in until you install it. If a reputable shop rebuilds the transmission, you essentially have a new transmission with a warranty, but the cost is usually higher. If you plan to keep the truck for a long time, or if you tow with it often, it's probably better to have it rebuilt. If you might sell the truck in the next 2 years and use it lightly, a junkyard transmission will probably do just fine.

he could be right, what color was the fluid before you changed it? if it was black, then leave it because it ran for so long like that by changin it got a clean slate to slip. heres a saying i heard "if it wasnt tuoched in a year,but runs leave it" .dont do this with engine oil.
