My 4 wheel drive is binding around corners.

Asked by dutch6650 Feb 22, 2014 at 06:42 PM about the 1988 Ford Bronco Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 88 Ford Bronco seems to be binding in 4WD. Moving in a straight line seems to be
OK, but going around corrners, I can feel it binding and grabing. Is this the transfercase
giving out? I was told to drive it in some mud to release the tension. No bad noises, only
acts up w/hubs locked in 4x4 mode. 2x drive is fine. thanks for any tips.

that year 4x4 is not meant for dry hard surface, but it is normal to feel that binding on dry hard turns in 4x4.

I agree with the previous posts. What you are feeling is normal. I would say that you should not ingage the 4 wheel drive on dry streets, you can leave the hubs locked in for some periods of time and just drive in 2 wheel until you need it.
