1989 Ford E150 Econoline Van starts every time . will die and lose power steering randomly

Asked by SVbart Oct 08, 2017 at 10:20 AM about the 1989 Ford E-Series E-150 XL Club Wagon

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Bought recently. Motor and Transmission are in excellent shape. only 70,000
miles. starts up every time with no issues. Sometimes will take a pump or two
to get going and warmed up. occasionally as soon as I put it into gear and tap
on the gas it will die, check engine light comes on, and lose power steering.
once again this only happens every other time I drive it.
Gonna clean out the fuel lines and see if that helps.

Look on youtube for self-check code on Fords 87-95 without a scanner/reader.

Go ahead do the test before the light comes on it may already have a code either way you need to know how to read the code for when the light is on, and when light does come on leave the ignition on until you read the code so it does not reset or go away when ignition switch it turned off. Research all possible reason that code could set before doing parts changing as it could just be a bad electrical connection or a dirty fuel filter.

Did you figure out what was wrong? I have an 89 E150 that is doing the same thing. Thanks!
