transmission upgrade

are there newer and/or better automatic transmissions for 87 pickup? Are there
kits with higher final drive? Should I just rebuild the one I have?

A good trans shop can install heavier duty parts in most cases, as most transmissions are upgraded as the years go on, so you will get the latest and greatest materials.
