1987 nissan 300zx, will start and run then will randomly shut off at a stop sign/light or will die shortly after starting.

When i start the car it will sometimes die after running for a few seconds. Then
i restart it n start to drive then it will die at a stop sign/ stop light, so i restart it n
go on my way. And i have a slight gas smell at times.
