What's the cheapest way to put a locking diff in a '96 Dakota, has 3.9 and 5 spd. Thanks

Asked by boatguynpt Jan 21, 2015 at 08:08 PM about the 1996 Dodge Dakota SLT Club Cab RWD

Question type: Car Customization

I've checked around with aftermarket diff suppliers that can do one for $500 to $1000.
Can one from a newer Dakota be switched out ? or maybe entire rear end ?
Also... anyone know of dually rims and hubs for a Dakota ?
Thanks

yes if you find the same size diff (cooperate 7 1/4 or 8 1/4 )with the same gear ratio it would be a cheaper way to go and less work ...and I have never heard of a dually rear for a Dakota

I have seen a dually ram rear axle swapped into a Dakota on a show truck. money was not an object for them, and there was much fabrication.
