Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i pull the fill bolt again to check and fluid gushes out again
and smells kinda like gas..how is my transmission gaining
fluid? the engine oil is fine. how could gas get past the
whole engine and into my trans but not into the engine oil. i
am stumped. just keep draining fluid out and it fills up again
over time.  it just causes shitfting a bit clunky, but otherwise
i drive i eveyday and it runs fine.

when you put more oil in it were you draining the transmission completely, sometimes oil can be stuck or not drained properly, as for the smell of fuel im not positive but if memory serves me correctly it can start to smell like fuel if the bearing that's behind the flywheel is leaking or on its way out and oil from the engine can get into the transmission

when i first got the car, i pulled the fill bolt on the transmission and fluid started gushing out. it smelt so horrible that i knew i had to change it all and i pulled the drain bolt on the bottom as well. i filled a gallon jug and a half from the fluid in the drain pan (which was empty when i started). i could not understand how it could have been overfilled by 4 litres. so i poured a little oil through to try and rinse the old stuff out, let it drip for quite a while, put the drain plug in, and put in just under 2L with a funnel with a hose on it into the fill bolt hole. put the fill bolt back in. so, 3 months later, i pulled the fill bolt to see if the transmission is leaking (car clunks a bit going into 1st and reverse) and a litre of fluid gushed out on me from the fill hole befoee i could get the bolt to go back in. i was really carful making sure it was level both times. the transmission is gaining some kind of fluid (smells like gas) and i cant figure out how it is getting in there. : (
