would putting larger rims on a CRV mess up the stability control.

No, Putting Larger rims would not effect the stability control system, as long as you follow the book. if you don't put the proper size tire on you will destroy the Transmission and the rear def. best place to find the right tire and rim size tirerack.com I have 18" rims with 255-45 tires on in summer time for my 2012 CR-V
