Check Engine Light keeps coming on!

Asked by Faye Dec 13, 2013 at 09:37 AM about the 2013 MINI Cooper Hatchback FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2013 Mini Cooper Knightsbridge in June, 2013.  The light has come on 6
times!!  Mini replaced spark plugs and ran all kinds of other tests.  They had my car for 33
days last time.  I only use 91 or 94 gas.  I always click the gas cap tight (I know this isn't
the issue because the light doesn't come on until a couple days after I've fueled).  Has
anyone else had this problem??  Any solutions??  Thanks for all your help!!

Have your check engine light codes read. Your local auto parts store will do this for free. Then post code numbers back on here and we will be able to better narrow down the issue you are having.

Thank you! I've uploaded a screen shot of my latest service report. After the this service report - red service light came on within 1 day. Check engine light came on 5 days later (all on the same tank of gas).

Ok looks like they replaced faulty injectors to fix the previous issues. The check engine light might be on for another reason now so you will need to have the codes read again to be sure what the issues are.

Make sure that you stop the car, go to your fuel filler cap, take it off, keep it off for 30 seconds. Screw it back on, making sure that it clicks 4-5 times. Start the engine and the light should go off. If that does not work. Bring it back to another Mini dealer, it should still be under the original warranty. Let the do a diagnostic on it.

I'm reading all these questions and answers on the MINI check engine light coming on. I have a 2009 S with 75,000 miles on it and it's been a great car until October 2013 I have had the car in and out of the shop so many times it's making me crazy. I've spent over $5,000 for different issues and it is still on. Code is P115C Mass Air Flow. This has all been corrected. My car is running fine no problems. Just want the light to stay off. Any suggestions.

It would be good to know how many miles are on the 2013 Knightsbridge? And, if the problem has been solved?

I have a 2013 Mini Clubman 2 Dr CPE S with 14,415 miles on it and my check engine light keeps coming on. My son just brought it back from the dealer after having the scheduled maintenance done which it took them less than 8 hrs to do. (?) and the check engine light came on again when my son got on the freeway bringing the car back to me! The Service Manager said they did a 32 point complimentary inspection but that wouldn't include a check for codes. Need less to say I am pretty pissed about this. A new car with the check engine light coming on??? Maybe we should d a class action suit this is not right!!!!

The problem with the light staying on is you don't actually know if something is wrong with your car. It is crazy, maybe you are right about filing a class action suit. Mine stays on.

I will tell you as soon as you bring your car in, the first thing they do is put your key fob into a slot. It tells the service advisor everything that they need to know. Including codes that may be coming up. If they do not do this, I would go to a better Mini Dealer. Don't know where you are from and what kind of dealer you have but if it is a Mini Dealer, they can do the key thing, if they don't then you have a proper case against them. Personally, I'd rather have a dealer that respected me. In other words, look around.

I'm having the same issue with my 2012 Mini Countryman. The light has come on before and gone away on it's own. It happened recently with some very cold weather. It will go off on it's own but then come back on. It also seems to be not getting enough steady fuel in 2nd gear. I'm wondering if it could possibly be water in the gas tank from the cold weather. I plan on getting the codes read at Autozone first and also trying the gas cap trick. The previous time this happened it was very humid and rainy out. Had I known about this issue, I likely would not have bought the car. A new car shouldn't give you these troubles. I should have known better than to buy a car that wasn't a Honda.

I have only one Mini dealership in my area. I own a 2012 Mini Countryman and the check engine light comes on and goes off when ever it wants to. Originally I kept taking it back to the dealer ship. After several checks they finally concluded that it was the thermostat and $300 out of pocket money spent. A week later it came on for a while went off and didn't come back on for 3 months. As of April it comes on and off at least once a week. The dealership informed me that it could be a Turbo problem and that there was a $700 charge just to check this out. I'm concerned that it's not the turbo and its the dealership just wanting more money from me. Who should I contact if there is only one dealership that works on my car.

I brought a 2011 Countryman X a year ago I first started to get the warning light in March this year. I took it to the local delay (the only dealer) and they told me it was the electric coils ad had them replaced costing me $4,000 with and oil change tune up. The light came back a moth later so I took it back. This time they told me it is the fuel injection and would cost me $600. I said no way. When I declined the work, they ten said the inspection will cost me $160. I said #%# and left. I will try changing the gas cap to see fi that will help. Just yesterday, the light was on and right after a gas fill-up with premium from Exxon, the light stayed off for a while. I am also considering bring my mini to White Planes and try them. My local dealer seems like a rip off and want money from me every time I visit.

i have a 2007 6 speed and it was bizzare when this evening in the middle of my drive home it started sputtering in third and the check engine light came on. All of this without warning. I wonder two things... 1 there is water in my tank (which is totally possible) 2 if one of my fuel sensors / or injectors are bad or 3 something I cant find. Either way I've had great success with my Mini.. It's a certified pre owened and has been amazing. I honestly think its water in the tank (crossing fingers) but if not it's quite a bizzare occurrence because there has been no warning, anyone else have this problem?

I have mixed feelings from reading your answers. 1. I'm surprised to hear so many others having the same problems I have with my 2011 Mini Countryman check engine light coming on and off at will with no satisfactory explanation. 2. I'm appalled that the dealership mechanics know so little about this issue when it's so common. I've been told many of the same things you have and even been scolded for putting the owners manual recommended grade fuel in the car... Still to know resolution. My car just came out of warranty and I'm scared to take it to the dealership and them saying it's a $$$ problem that I have to now pay out of pocket. This seems to me to be a factory defect and we should not be paying to have it fixed.

When you bring it back to the dealer, print out the answers to your question, tell them that this issue has been present and that none of the Mini mechanics know what to do about it. The letter to the dealer should show that this happened during the warranty period. You want it fixed now, at no cost. If they are any kind of dealer in good standing, they will do as you ask. Good luck and keep us posted. Yes, it is premium fuel that is needed in your car. I don't care what others have chided you about. My Mini used only premium gas and purred like a kitten.

i have a 2009 hardtop and my engine light will come on and stay on for about a day and then go off for about a day. Its not the fuel cap because its so random. Should i spend the money and get it checked out?

Follow up to my issue. I changed my spark plugs and the issue went away - or so I thought. The plugs were pretty gunky - one was real bad. It started running better immediately. However, when I brought it in for service the mechanic took it for a quick spin and said it seemed to be misfiring slightly. He took me for a ride to point it out. They checked it out and it turned out to be a bad ignition coil. It was under warranty and it completely solved the issue. Kudos to the mechanic for finding the problem on his own. He could have just changed the oil and sent me on my way.

Well, dang. I came on here looking for a simple reason that my engine light is on. My 2012 Countryman only has $12,000 miles on it, so it's under warranty, but still...

My 2012 Countryman has had the heating coil, spark plugs, and turbo engine replaced among other issues that have costs several $$$. The past year and a half the engine light would come on practically every 3 months. Luckily I had purchased the extended warranty on the turbo or that would have cost me $3000. I'm so disappointed...I love the car but can't afford the constant repairs.

That's the same feeling I gave GSuds... I love the car but I am really annoyed at this issue. So I took it in for service, they had to change the spark plugs (as always) and they found some error message that I had never heard before that had to do with the oil. Mind you, I've never gone over the recommended mileage for oil change. So of course they chucked it to that. Bottom line they are stumped and have no idea what it could be. I don't know if I should go to an independent mechanic for a second opinion. New spark plugs, changed oil, premium gas: the light keeps coming on. I have half a mind to just give up and change cars.

One thing I found helpful was to get an onboard error reader from Amazon to diagnose codes myself. The one I got is called Blue Driver and it helped me diagnose cylinder misfires that were causing my engine light to come on - new plugs and new ignition coil and no more issues for me so far.

My wife took her 2012 CM ALL4 in yesterday for it's oil change and for the Engine light being intermittent. The dealership said they ran the diagnostic and that she needs a new battery. A 4 year old car with just over 60K miles. This seems a little crazy to me. My '11 Cabrio with 77K miles has not had any battery problems. Does this sound weird to anyone else but me?

When replacing the plugs use the original type plugs and replace the serpantine belt. The should turn the light off. Also don't wait till the light comes on to tune the car up. The recommended plugs are adequate and the car will run just fine. Hope this works for you it did with me.

I had the same issue with my clubman Mini cooper S and I just did it. mightymini11's mentioned to start the car, remove the gas tank lid, wait around 30 seconds, put the lid back turn the car of, and when I started my car again, the motor light was off. I love you mightymini11's!!! thanks for the information !!!!

I have a 03 Mini and the check filler cap light came on, i checked it or so I thought at the time and later that day the check filler cap light went off and the engine light came on after checking the filler cap again I realized that it wasn't on properly and corrected the problem, now the check engine light is still on! Will it go off and do you think air may have gotten down in there?

Did you do it with the car running, you may need a new cap if that one hasn't been replaced. There may be a large O ring acting as a seal. Do not replace it when the car is running. As for the check engine light, the same goes for it. However, going to a person that has a diagnostic tool can show if there is an issue or not. They will provide codes to let you know what is going on. Good Luck !

When my red park light came on (I have a 2012 Mini cooper S) it meant I had to have my brakes changed - turned out the brake pads and discs had to be replaced. Yesterday I was driving home in the drizzle and my amber engine (half filled) light came on. The car lost power and stuttered especially in second gear. I checked the fuel cap (the rubber wires were slightly twisted inside) and this morning, no light and no jerking on the way to work. I called into Mini just to check and no codes came up from the fob. However, I have booked it in for a check up next week just in case.....

Took to dealer, they said timing chain, fuel pump, fought for warranty received then the car runs awful so they said fuel injectors bad 2,500. To replace. Said no thanks took it to honest mechanic he replaced spark plugs all 4 fuel injectors, flex pipe, and he is baffled car is running horrible! I’m with guru! The car is full of gas only use premium! I am so depressed! Where do you go from here!

my 2013 mini engine sounds and runs ok on so called 89 octane fuel, but the engine light came on, who knows when, and has been on for months. I refuse to go a dealer cause there is no warranty of it now, probably [2018]. The Owner Manual has 1 brief note re this 'engine' warning light but offers no useful info about this light. I take this as a clue that its bullshit. Its likely an engineering mistake that the Mini engineers should have been de- nutted for. Also this is suggested by the above owners frustrated remarks that the diagnostic engine code was useless, as was attempts by mechanic to cure it. All this suggests that its bullshit, not a real 'warning' light, and the best thing to do is to just ignore it.

I own a 2014 Mini Paceman 6 speed. My check engine light comes on and off. Took to a Mini dealership and waiting to hear back. Stay tuned. Good to know this may be an engineering issue so I can fight the cost even though I have an extended warranty that covers major issues.

I have had a similar saga and sadly have mothballed the 2010 R55 Clubman with 68,000 miles. Could not afford the repairs, but if anyone else can learn from this, or even have a great idea about fixing it... - I had a near collision 2 years ago, but stopped before rear ending car in front of me. Car had a rough idle after that, and a few days later check engine light went on. - error code = cylinder 1 and 3 misfire. - I replaced those ignition coils, all 4 spark plugs at the 60K service, Fine for 2 weeks, check engine light back on - took back to shop, mechanic says it probably is carbon scoring around the intake valves. They clean out the scoring as best they can, but did not use the walnut husk method. - no more rough idle for one month. - Engine light comes on and off intermittently for another 6 months as does the rough idle - local mechanic thinks its the ECM and wants 2,000 to replace it. I decline and get the dealer to re-progam it. It works for 3 months, rough idle is back. - Need a smog certificate so need to get the engine light off so take back to dealer, they get the misfire code and replace ALL the ignition coils and it runs smooth for 3 days (thankfully enough time to get smog passed. - 3 months later, upon advice of a mechanic I take it back to dealer to warranty fix their potentially faulty coils. I expect to get that paid as warranty work. - Bad news, the service tech tells me, "its a cylinder pressure issue, oil is leaking into the pistons via the valve..." Me: "so what can I do to repair it?" Him: "oh, with the cost of labor it is much simpler to replace the whole engine." me: "How much will that cost me?" Him: around $10,000... and one piece of good news is that your clutch will not need to be replace as it somes with the motor." Me: I'll just take my car and go." Him"you still need to pay the $100 for diagnostic repairs..." Ugh! - I was able to drive it home, cover it up and am thinking about what's next. total loss or try to fix the issue without replacing the motor. Might be my first forray into being a mechanic...

I appreciate all feedback------must say the back & forth with the dealership/company was VERY frustrating....after 6 or 7 times taking the car back with the engine light on yet again.....I am now told that it is a short block...as well the GM dealt with me...lucky for me as it is still under warranty...otherwise I would be paying in the thousands ...the GM /dealership gave me a loaner car as well.....it can be frustrating...my warranty runs out soon and if the engine light comes on again I will be back to the dealership....VERY frustrated again.

My 2014 Mini Countryman check engine light came on - evap leak code. No leaks found; reset codes. Light came on again 5 months later. Diagnosed as Leak detection pump failure— quoted $700 to fix. Haven’t approved the repair yet. Ridiculous

2012 Mini Cooper S Convertible with 49000 miles - no warranty. Check engine light comes on and off randomly. Independent trusted mechanic ran diagnostics, verified that nothing appeared to be wrong with car except potential thermostat issue, reset warning light. Went a week with no problems and now it randomly comes on and off. I will try the gas cap trick but I agree with the rest of you - maybe this is a class action suit in the waiting. I would love to sell the car but wonder if it is a road block to inspection approval.

My wife has a 2011 Cooper S, we purchased brand new off the showroom floor. We have lost count the number of problems from literally day 1. The tire would not keep air, the taillights burned out, coils, spark plugs , ignitions etc...my wife love the car but hate the issues. We are in one dealer city....monopoly...I have begged her to dump that expensive money pit and paper weight...you will never get the check k engine light fixed...each time you will pay for another useless part time fix....

I have a 2009 Mini Cooper S. It has 75,000 miles and it is almost ten years old. I have spent over $25,000 in repairs not counting all the free warranty work that was done. The check engine light comes on annually and can mean anything from a loose gas cap to a broken cylinder. I had to replace the entire engine last year for that reason. I had always gone to the dealer but decided to go to a private Mini BMW mechanic. He told me all Mini engines are just badly manufactured. All have constant trouble. I had so much trouble in the first three years, I told BMW Mini that it fell under the lemon law. They denied my complaint. I feel I’ve dropped so much money into the car that I’ve got to keep it. I can never recoup my losses. Cute car but not worth it!

I would recommend just keeping the oil topped off and using your ears if it runs smooth and sounds good the light is probably catching some minute miss fire and sets the code light on my daughter drives an old saab engine lights are no big deal Just before I go for an inspection I disconnect the battery and the light goes off .Just enjoy the mini,,.

maybe this is a class action waiting to happen. my 2012 mini cooper has had A LOT of work done in the last year. I just had my car into the dealer because of the engine light coming on and off and now they are telling me that I am going to need a new engine because they can not find the problem with it and it must be internal. I am extremely upset because I love my car, but this is clearly a common issue

I have a 2014 Mini Cooper only 40k miles on it and the engine light came on. I tried using the OBD machine to turn it off but it won't turn off. I have P052B and P013C codes. Failed inspection. I took it to Mini dealer, they quote me $1700 which is ridiculous and they said there's a part in the engine that's defective that needs to be replaced and is a 10 hours job. I don't trust them. So I went to local mechanic and they ran the codes. They said my Mini needs some software updates and light will go off. They charge me $350. The dealer is trying to rip me off. They made it seem like my mini has big issue. I told them my mini drives fine, nothing is wrong with it so I don't trust these mini dealers. I should suit them for their wrong diagnosis. I even have to pay them $170 for diagnostic. I need my money back.

Vermont just announced they are holding owners responsible for engine light. 1 year waiver. It sickens me when I read posts like this. It is a class action suit in my opinion when Mini can’t figure out why it pops up so frequently! My dealer said the emissions test is fine but the light keeps on can’t find the problem! Maybe the board maybe the harness somewhere! 2008 50,000. Miles.

GURUBGNR2, I am currently in same situation. 2 weeks ago I wake up to a dead battery, jump it and let it charge on way to an appointment. I came out to a dead battery (discharge battery read on dash). I brought to mini dealer (it's a 2016 4 door mini under warrenty), they keep it a day, replace battery and I leave and drive 60 miles home. 1.5 days later my check engine light turns on and i get extremely irritated because i have clients to see and I have to drive another 60 miles back and forth. The service department attempts to tell me I may not have screwed my gas cap on tight enough!!! I laugh of course being this is my 4th mini In 13 years (3 now lemons) and have heard this bs several times in past. They call me the following day to pick it up this time replacing the vacuum line. My gas had been running lean and there was a leak in it. I again drive another 1.5 days and light comes on again!!! I'm furious and now over mini 100%!! My warranty ends in 6 months and being a long time mini owner I know this will never end. I brought the car back again, yelled like a crazy saying keep the car, dont attempt to call me back unless it is fixed 110%. They have had it 5 days and now tell me they replaced the air meter. Through the conversation I have gotten no info other than they are using the car as an experimental lab rat, their "main" technician has "dedicated" his time to my car because of the issue and they dont know exactly what the issue is but this will work!!!! I'm saddened to have had 4, this one I was assured they had fixed all the glitches 2016 forward and of course they lied. I HIGHLY recommend not buying one or dumping all of yours. I have had corporate involved several times in past and even had one lemon lawed. I cannot deal with this argument or corporate so while my car is still at dealership (now 6 days) I have worked a deal on another vehicle with another dealership. My time with BMW/Mini has ended and I want people to understand, once an issue, always an issue with mini. Btw, my first mini was a 2006 so 3 between those years were absolute junk and all bought new! I wish all of you good luck with your vehicles however they can become EXTREMELY unsafe to drive if nothing is done, my first one nearly killed me on the road shutting down during a u turn in miami after the battery had been changed 13 times in 3 months. This is the service you expect to get at a dealership. And it's not just one dealership, I have used ft lauderdale, west palm, Jacksonville and honolulu!! Cars are junk, period.

I feel so much better after reading this. I have a 2013 Countryman JCW. Been fighting with MINI Canada all day and they seem to give zero care about the problem. Had an axle boot tear twice (same one) after 18 months. First time under warranty, now they will not cover the repair because my vehicle warranty has expired. Also had the engine shut down during driving issue as well. They also made me pay for it after fixing it under warranty less than a year before. They also blamed me for not using top tier premium gas (when that's all that car has ever seen) during my warranty period. Claimed they found the issue. Actually found the issue a month and a half after the warranty period was up. My problem of course. Only car I've ever wanted but so, so terribly built. Neither the dealership or the manufacturer care about fixing the problems either.

The wiper washer fluid froze I was able to thaw it out and add a cold weather mixture. But I must say it has been running great so far but after everything I am reading I am wondering if I made a mistake buying this car.I feel like I'm just waiting for an engine light to come on .I an trying to enjoy it but all I hear is bad reports and issues.

If your engine warning light comes on and you're lucky enough for it to be gas-cap related, this may help. On the end of the fuel filler is a groove which goes around the receptacle. Debris gets ground into this groove every time you gas up. Clean this out thoroughly, clean (or do the vaseline thing) on the cap itself. Worked for me; waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Have a Mini S 2009 with SOLID yellow CEL Oreilley Auto scanned with a bosch obd2 scanner then stated engine codes where 10103 10115 10099 24113 I can not find any mini cooper trouble codes that are even 5 digits like this on a google search ?????????? they all seem to have U P B etc in them and 4 digits how can I get the codes or translate this to an actual "mini" trouble code ? Perhaps the Oreilley Auto guy was not very proficient in using the scanner is there a way to get them diplayed on the dashboard odometer like my other cars ?

I have same year and model, 2009 S but has half filled check engine light. O'reilly's did my scan too. It displayed numbers like yours too. At least they didn't clear it like the idiot did at AutoZone just the day prior, and then try to play it off by telling if the check engine light comes back on, bring it back - maybe he was trying to be helpful and hoping light would not come back on.

I have written on this site before about my check engine light 2 years ago! Vermont will not pass inspection this year with engine light on! I will be forwarding this site to vermont after my inspection! 2008 Mini Cooper s mint condition, 53,000 miles . Original owner! I had to buy this car in New York in 2008 because Vermont did not sell them! Inspection due in December, added stress over a engine light!

I have a 2009 Mini Clubman (non-turbo) with 92K miles. This is my second Mini, previously leased a 2006, fortunately the lease expired right when I started having trouble with CVT transmission (24K miles). The car was pretty reliable until last year - water pump had to be replaced, head gasket was leaking and it needed a new alternator. Total appx $3K This afternoon I just picked my Clubman from my local (very trustworthy mechanic) after spending close to $5K to get multiple problems repaired. It needed to have the brake and ABS pumps replaced. They replaced the brakes and rotors, (I'm ok with brake job-the car has never had brakes/rotors replaced). The mechanic at the garage said they had taken it on a test drive - interstate and local 2 lane roads for 45 minutes and it was running great. I drove it home, stopped for gas and sure enough, the damn yellow light was on!!! My most recent problems and what lead me to my garage was the annoying yellow check engine light that appeared in early October only to disappear; A couple weeks later, when it wouldn't go off I took it to Auto Zone -they were able to pull one code P0977; which is an electrical high voltage solenoid in the transmission. When this happened previously I took it to O'Reilly's the salesperson at that time said that I might want to consider buying a code reader specifically for BMW/Mini as the reader they used sometimes missed all the possible codes these cars throw. When I went to Auto Zone salesperson essentially said the same thing as they did at O'Reilly - suggested I look on Amazon or Pelican parts for a BMW specific code diagnostic reader. I asked him if I could drive it like this, he said that in the short term yes, but it might get stuck in any of its gears. I drove it for a couple more weeks it started being very jerky in the morning and when it downshifted from 3rd to 2nd gear. Because my drive to work takes me thru very rural countryside I didn't want to breakdown in the middle of nowhere. So off to the garage again with it - the code reader was right - a transmission issue. $2500 to repair, add in the $1000 to repair brake pumps. While it was at the garage they said the serpentine belt was very frayed/worn, ($800) so I approved that as well. I did get more general maintenance work - air cabin filter/oil change/time for new spark plugs. I love my car, but over the past couple of years have sunk $8K into a car that is worth half as much (being generous w/resale). The A/C went out in August - it needs a new compressor; since Fall was on the way, I put up with it and went without. I'm semi-retired, don't have the income coming in that I once had, so reluctantly am going to start looking at Mazda/Hyundai/Kia small SUV models. A friend of mine loaned me their 2012 Buick Century while my Mini was gone for 2-1/2 weeks. I know Buick is associated with old people, but it was nice to drive a reliable and comfortable vehicle that I didn't have to worry what was going to be next problem. On one of the other Mini forums there's a threat that asks "What did you do to your Mini this week"? Main responses seem to be from hard core owners that modify their cars - not using their Mini as every day drivers. I so badly want to start a thread that says "What went WRONG with your Mini this week?" I asked the mechanic at the garage if he felt it was wise for me to consider purchasing another Mini. He (honestly) answered "we really appreciate your business, but I wouldn't recommend it". Said he's seen too many problems with Mini and feels the quality control has really suffered. So I will be walking away from mine. I know realistically I shouldn't have sunk $8K into it (that would be a pretty good down payment on a late model used or even a new car) but kept hoping it would last. I'll miss my Mini, but I won't miss all of the hassles.

OMG - Can't believe all you have the same problem as I have with Mini. My mini is a 2013 Countryman - and we want to sell. We've had it in and out locally because of the half engine light. It's currently off, but we're afraid to take in for fear it will come on. We're getting a very low bid on car from dealer $8,000 - dependent whether light comes on - then they will offer less. How low do I go? It has 80,000 miles - and excellent in and out. I'm very, very frustrated as many of you. Can't believe Mini hasn't rectified this by now. Looks like this has been a problem for years!

Get the Carly device with annual subscription for full details. Some issues may be resolved with a a new battery (yes, a new one), doing the gas cap check, and the down tube from the turbo. My mini also had the 5 digit numbers and and not the one that starts with P. I have come to conclusion the non-P codes are vehicles directly bought and imported from Europe, Those with P Seem to be U.S. manufactured and bought new from dealership. Anyone who buys used may end up buying either one. My code has never returned since replacing battery and gas cap check. Carly app And device will show you stuff that autozone, o Reilly’s, etc.... will not. You may ha e to decipher the verbiage but pretty spot on. It will also clear the codes - if your car turns on but not over to run after clearing codes ..... remove both cables from batter terminals, and hold the cable terminals together (not connected to battery). Reconnect cables to battery terminals. This procedure resets some type of fault that prevented car from starting.

Is there a lawsuit out there for me to be added on lemon law? All these issues and there's no lawsuit out there? Outrageous that BMW would not fix these problems for years. Just bought my 2019 clubman, less than 10k miles and the engine light came on after one week drive. This is less than 10k miles!!! It hasn't been inspected as we are waiting for plates. If I knew all this, I would not buy BMW/Minni. I bought extended warranty and hope to sell just before warranty expires but if its in the shop more than me driving it, not worth it. I love the care but refused to spend time getting it fixed. Time is money!

I have read almost all of these. I would like to say I bought a Mini Countryman 2014 new . I kinda figured this out when at about 40 to 50000 I had the engine light . Spark plugs! Ya you have to change them every 2 yrs at least brand new . Someone told me they were easy to change checked it out on YouTube , just like they said it was so easy. I changed them after 2 yrs of having the car by myself they all burned. I skipped all the engine lights because i would do this and car would run great. If I didn't do this my car would show signs of weakness in torque and everything else. Then , now I'm at 100,000. 2 yrs ago they sent letters out for the recall on the Thermostat , thermostat housing . They changed it new they said everything was good for 2 yrs , now at 100,000 miles I got the overheating sign as soon as I got it I was home. Drove it to the dealer 6 miles away next day fine. Really was breaking down again when I got to the dealer didn't sound to good . Next day they tell me : car is toast, Thermostat is melted , the hose feeding the turbo is leaking , with all including oil filter housing gasket they want over 6000$ Dollars. The car has issues I'm making a claim this time. Brand new I bought off lot always put oil take care of the wear and tears now this no way.
