2013 toyota corolla Dash says "R" for reverse but the shifter is in Park. Car won't attempt to start.

2013 Toyota Corolla LE
The dash displays "R" but I have the shifter in Park. The car will not attempt
to turn on because of this. Also, i notice that the shifter give a little resistance
when i try to put it in park. I checked the shift cable under the panel for any
bushing damage, but all is well and lubricated. The neutral safety switch also
do not go all the way to park. What could it be? Relay? safety switch? Any
information helps.
