Front Brake Shims

I just did my 1st brake job on the Corolla removing the factory pads and installing after market pads (Organic not ceramic).  The factory pads had 2 shims behind each pad.  I figure the 1st shim was to support the pad itself because it was not a solid pad but ribbed on the back.  The 2nd shield was just a normal shield.
When I installed the new pads should I have reinstalled both shims or 1 shim!  The new pads did not come with shims.

Shims are usually for anti-squealing and some new pads come with them. If you have problems with your new pads squealing there are products that you can apply to the back of the pad to help stop the noise.

Since your new pads did not come with shims, I would reinstall the original ones.
