What is causing my radio to cut out and on?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a stock radio for my 1998 Dodge Dakota. Got it in ok and it works but there is a drop off in power ever so briefly and then it comes back. Could it be the speakers are bad, or is the power falloff caused by something like the antenia wire or some other wire is loose? I had similar problems with a best buy radio that was in there prior to this and lowering the volume seemed to help there but not with this. It is definitely a power loss this time. Any thoughts?

I thought everything was in the 2 wire connectors that go into the radio. Could this be a separate wire? There is a additional separate small connector what looks like a single a black wire that came out of it and went into the old wire harness for the previous radio. Would this be the ground you are referring to?

I don't know, just noticed the wiring diagram left out the color of the ground wire. Your two wire connectors are probably for the constant and ignition power to the radio. Your black wire sounds like the ground. Is it attached securely to some ground?
