Grinding when turning and braking but its not rotors

Asked by Digirmd Feb 07, 2017 at 09:22 AM about the 2013 Dodge Charger SE RWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, i am NO mechanic but im also not someone who needs
to have someone do my pads, rotors, oil etc.. 7 out of 10
repairs i can usually handle myself but i cant for the life of
me figure what this is. Its a grinding noise which sounds
very much like pads down to the metal hitting rotors.
Problem is the pads are fine... it happens when i turn
somewhat sharp ( like turning intona driveway but not
turning around a bend) and i hVe to be applying the brake at
the same time. Although last night for the first time it did it
without the brake. But for months now only left turn and
braking. It doesn't happen on right turns. DRIVING ME
CRAZY!!! everything seems tight under the car i tried
putting grease anywhere i could. Its a 2013 charger 6cyl
automatic rwd. Any advice please? Thanks guys

More than likely it is a front wheel bearing that is bad. Just jack up the front of the car and pull from the top of the tire back and forth checking for play. There should not be any play in the wheel.

Also look at the CV joint boots. If one is torn grease would be coming out of it, and should be replaced. The front axle shaft would need to be replaced. Possible the noise is coming from there also.

As crazy as this sounds, if your dust shield is bent then it could be the cause of all the noise by rubbing on other parts.

would have to agree with the previous comments, but also, I have seen where aftermarket rims have been grinding on the front suspension, near the alignment bolts, (just another possibility that you might want to check).... likely the passenger side if only on left turn
