does a new alternator need to be flashed or can I just install and be done

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought this truck and they just installed a new alternator but then pcm burnt out with the asd pin still stuck in one of the grey connectors . should I just replace the wiring harness going to the pcm ?. I don't want it to happen to the new pcm i'm buying

You can't get the pin out of the connector? If not you could solder in a new connector. I'm pretty sure they make them.

I got the pin out of the connector but should I replace connector or can I reuse it with not problems with new pcm ?

If it's clean and tight you probably can but to answer your "Flashing" question .. No ,,, because flashing was only done on the old generators , not on an alternator Geez ,, that question brought back memories

The new PCM will need to be flashed using your vehicle identification number (VIN). But the alternator does not. Just install it as is. HTH. -Jim
