Question type: Maintenance & Repair

First time it happened but i was driving and heard something that sounded loose and the after that for a
brief period when i turned the steering wheel something was grinding badly. Not a squealing sound
which i know is usually the steering pump, and my steering didn't tighten up, it just created a grinding
noise. it stopped and came for about 18 miles then i got home. any ideas?

Check your power steering fluid level. It could be the pump or the rack. You don't want to be driving around like that. Get it fixed ASAP.

So the power steering can cause the grinding? the rack and pinions seem to be fine but i wouldn't expect the pump to cause an intense sound like it did. and it did it mainly when i turned right if that makes any difference, only once on a left turn
