i have a stick on the floor of my durango 2000 and tried to put into 4 hi and it just slides back and forth now instead of having tention like usual what happened

The linkage must have come loose or broke, you need to get under your truck to see what is going on or have somone who knowes what he is doing take a look. When moving the stick you have to make sure that there is no tension in the t-case secially whenn going from low to high or 4wd high to 2wd. It is best to have the tranny in neutral when you do that to prevent the linkage to brake or come loose.
