Porsche Cayenne to buy or not to buy

look at similar mercedes ML. Specifically the 2015 ML400 if you can find them. biturbo v6 and much better build quality. Most of the cayenne's that I looked at seem ragged out on the interiors. Also every single cayenne I looked at someone had cleared all of the codes and haven't been driven enough for the diagnostics to run. Check the service history. Get a pre purchase inspection. I paid for 2 PPI's before giving up on Cayenne's. I own another Porsche so don't think I am just down on the brand.

These are good model years IF the maintenance has been done and they can pass a Pre- Purchase Inspection by a person knowledgeable on Porsche. See if your dealer can pull the service history. In particular, see if the Transfer Case and Tube have been replaced under warranty. That seems to be the #1 issue with the newer generation Cayennes. I recently purchased a 2016 Cayenne base V6. Love it. Even with the base V6 it has all of the power I want. (I'm a middle-aged guy and I am not looking at being the fastest car on the road. Pickup off the line is way more than sufficient for me.) As the poster above states, there are a lot of ragged-out Cayennes, especially the older ones (pre-2010), based on what I saw as I browsed what seemed to be 1,000 listings. Go for as new as you can and get a warranty. I bought an aftermarket warranty from a local independent shop that specializes in Porsche. National warranty company that the shop stands behind, so I theoretically have a 5-year, 125,000 bumper-to-bumper warranty for my peace of mind. Don't go into this purchase unless you plan for the long-term on maintenance and repairs. The consensus seems to be that the Cayenne is pretty reliable, but you have to buy the right one where you know its history and had an expert look it over thoroughly.
