2013 subaru legacy 2.5 with bad rings from factory and a oil monster

I've  heard the engine is junk and it isn't worth replacing.

If you got an early bad one (mis-calibrated machined cylinder walls) then yes you should replace the entire block; a used entire motor is probably cheaper. But first you should try replacing any too-skinny 0w oil with 5w30 or even 10w40 and see if consumption is dramatically reduced. If not, then yell at SOA for a new block. Best, Ern TSG/B
