Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a lexus ES350. The Check engine light came on and the Diagnostic came back with error codeP0335. The cost for this repair (camshaft postion sensor remove and replace) was $1300.00. why would these sensors start going bad with a car that is only 7 years old and very low mileage. Should I be excepting to have more problem like this with this vehicle?

I would get a second repair quote from another shop any time I'm presented with a major repair bill. A repair code like that could be due to a faulty circuit as well, which includes the PCM, wiring and sensor itself. A corroded harness connector could give a code like that and that is a fairly cheap repair. The shop should have ran tests to verify a bad sensor. Perhaps they did, and that's all they repaired, but $1,300 is well above what a typical cam shaft repair costs.
