2013 Cadillac SRX Luxury - front upper strut mount has play

Asked by GuruRVWWK Feb 05, 2020 at 04:44 PM about the 2013 Cadillac SRX Luxury FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Front upper strut mount has play (3/8") between top plate and body.  Is this
normal like a floating upper mount?  Never seen this before.  Replace placed
with new OEM parts but still there.

Same problem on a ‘15 xts. Seems very unlikely that it’s right. Clunks going over bumps even with all new parts

Has anyone figured this out as I am having the same issue. Replaced struts and mounts with GM parts and there is play. Can not get it tight.

As far as I can tell it’s factory, customer has driven it this way since he bought it and says after I replaced the parts it’s clunking is back to normal. I believe it’s designed to annoy and fail quickly to get more money out of the older demographic that don’t like weird noises coming out of their luxury cars. Just my opinion.

I had the same issue on my 2013 SRX. It is a design flaw. I tried to find an aftermarket fix but nothing out there. I used a piece of dense rubber used to add to springs for lift and can get it at the auto store. I cut it down to roughly 3/8". Took the top plate off, inserted the rubber, replaced the plate and torqued the nut to the proper amount. No more rattles and rides great.
