2001 dodge neon won't start

Asked by theJessman Jul 11, 2013 at 11:51 PM about the 2001 Dodge Neon Highline ACR Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2001 dodge neon.  Solid red light on upper
right of dash.  Died on road.  Manual
transmission tried to pull start it didn't
work.  Turn key and the engine won't crank.
Power to all interior lights and radio and
exterior lights.  I believe its a security
system deal because I didn't know the key
was chipped and I bought a spare from
walmart and tried to use that and it would
just die.  Then I was driving down the road
and it died while using the regular key.

How old is your battery?...a marginal battery will "brown out" the ECU where it no longer can fire....the connection from the big black cable to the chassis ground is the important one because this is where your computer brain gets it's ground connection....don't give it brown power....get a NEW battery and clean the connection to ground...should start working normally with NO red lights then~

its not the battery, if that indicator is on solid like you said, thta means the skim module locked up and wont allow it to start, you need to use the skim (chipped) key in it at all times. if puting the skim key in it still wont start it, you will probably need to take the car into the dealer so they can reset the skim module in the car.

or use an inexpensive OBD-II scanner (plug-in not three feet from the ignition switch) read and reset the codes there~
