4 wd light comes on intermittently.

Asked by migration_camril Oct 20, 2012 at 03:01 PM about the 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have had the module and switch replaced on my 2001 Durango and the light on the dashboard still comes on for 4 wd service when it rains heavily. The car has been back to the dealer several times and they seem to be having an issue diagnosing the problem. Has anyone else had a similar experience.

If the problem is only during Heavy Rain, then I would look at the connection at the Transfer case, and chase the wire to entry to the firewall. Make sure there are no frayed or exposed wires. Clean and reconnect the plug and add some dielectric grease. Double check where the wire enters the vehicle. I have not had this problem, but it sounds like a short if only happens when rains.
