How often should I change the brake fluid for my 2013 Mazda CX-5?

Not many people change their brake fluid yet it is a good idea. If you live in a very wet or humid area I would change it more often than if you live in the desert. Check the fluid in the reservoir and if it looks nasty I would change it. Every 50,000 to 100,000 miles would probably be good. Check your service schedule to see if brake fluid changes are listed.


If I am not doing brake service and want to change some of my brake fluid (which I do once or twice a year) I pull the master cylinder cap off and use a turkey baster with a tube attached to end and put down in it to pull out some fluid and replace with new. Also good idea to do the same with the power steering pump reservoir. I found a size turkey baster I liked and then the hose/tube that fits it well. Basically fab it yourself. Otherwise when doing brake service I buy the big bottle of brake fluid and when bleeding brakes I make sure to pull out all the old fluid. Like said above most people and shops included do not do this for any reason, but needs to be done IMO. Brake fluid is a sponge for humidity (AKA water). Keep all your fluid fresh.
