Dodge dakota v8 transmission

So i have a manual dodge dakota v8magnum 318
01 and i was driving it and went to shift out of 4th
gear and it said i went to neutral but it was really
still in gear any other gear you put it in when you
try to drive other then 4th it bogs the engine down
when release if clutch im trying to figure out the
problem or possible buy a used transmission for
my truck i think it was custom made so its pretty
hard
